Homemaking in today’s world can feel incredibly challenging. While homemakers of the past had their own struggles, today we face unique pressures, often feeling isolated and pulled in many directions. We’re often separated from the natural support system and community that previous generations had. This can leave us feeling isolated and as if homemaking isn’t valued.
Why We Need a Supportive Community
Even as full-time homemakers, we juggle so much. Caring for our homes, teaching our children, meeting our families’ needs, volunteering, church involvement, and self-care – it’s a lot! Comparing ourselves to others can lead to burnout and depression. That’s why seeking support is so crucial.
The emotional and physical toll of these responsibilities can be overwhelming, especially during difficult seasons of life.
Studies show that people who have a strong sense of community and belonging are over three times more likely to report a high level of general health and almost five times more likely to report a strong level of mental health compared to people who do not have a strong sense of community.
Whether you’re a homemaker with young children, managing a chronic illness, raising a large family, or navigating homemaking without children, the support of like-minded women, online or in person, can be an incredible encouragement.
How Community Uplifts Us as Homemakers
Connecting with other homemakers allows us to tap into a wealth of shared wisdom. Many of the challenges we face have been experienced by others, and they can offer valuable insights and solutions. A community that shares your values, especially one centered on faith, can offer wisdom, joy, creativity, and solutions. You can find wisdom and biblical truths in those who share your hopes and dreams.
By having a community to share your struggles with, you allow yourself to grow as a homemaker and give yourself the freedom to be imperfect. By not constantly comparing ourselves to others, we allow ourselves to be authentic to ourselves. Perfection is a lie that’s been fed to us for a long time.
With a community behind you helping you to have the freedom to become your authentic self, you then have a community that helps you see the positives in the little things and the magic of ordinary days. They’re there to celebrate your achievements and growth, and there to support you when bad days come. No matter what happens, finding a homemaking community to love and support you is a wonderful start to the fellowship that Jesus spoke of.
Opportunities to Engage with Each Other
Where can you find this kind of support? I’m so glad you asked.
A few years back, I created The Homemaker’s Corner. A group on Facebook where homemakers who love Jesus and authenticity can gather together in our little corner of the internet. Here you’ll find a drama-free zone, a place of abundant encouragement, and a safe space to connect with other homemakers.
In The Homemaker’s Corner, you’ll get daily encouragement for your homemaking journey and even join in challenges that help you make your home a better place for you and your family. You can also find advice, share tips, and ask for prayer.
Building a Stronger and Better Community Together
Being a part of the homemaking community is something that we women should be proud of. We should encourage the women in our lives, churches, and communities to pour into their families with the love that Christ pours into them. It’s time to celebrate the valuable work of homemakers. Every woman’s path is unique, but for those called to be at home, we should be supported and valued, not ostracized.
Pouring Into Each Other’s Cups
Being a homemaker is a calling, not a sentence. No one should have to navigate it alone. Let’s choose to pour into each other’s cups, offering support, encouragement, and understanding.
Come join us over at The Homemaker’s Corner on Facebook today and start connecting with women who are on the same journey as you. Let’s build one another up, share wisdom, and support one another in our everyday challenges. Together we can make homemaking a beautiful, grace-filled journey.
Hello! I'm Amanda Elizabeth, creator of The Homemaker's Cottage. As a homemaker I have constantly felt the pull between old fashioned homemaking and the fast paced world we live in today. So I created The Homemaker's Cottage: a stress-free space between the old in the new, where there is no judgement and we can learn that homemaking can be relevant, easy and even enjoyable.
